Dear Amazing Women!

When Amanda Aksel was designing my website, she sent me ten images and asked me if I liked any one of them enough to use as my logo. I was immediately drawn to the black feather. I thought of it as a raven’s feather because that sounds more interesting and poetic than thinking of it as a crow’s feather. Doesn’t it?

Then I remembered the story of my father and the crows. So I looked up the spiritual significance of a crow. Crows are known to be clever and intelligent. In fact, they are among the most intelligent animals on earth. They also signify adaptability, transformation, and psychic abilities.

For years my father sat and had his morning coffee by the sliding glass door that looked out onto his deck. My father went out to dinner every night and brought the leftovers home to feed the crows. He would line the food up on the railing of the deck. As my father sat there watching each morning, a group of crows would arrive to feast on their buffet.

When my father was dying of heart failure, he never missed a day sitting by the window. We had bought him a special chair to enable him to sit there all day. My brother took over the feeding of the crows. A couple of days before my father died, they came for their morning feast. They then came back in the middle of the day. For about an hour, they flew over the deck, swooping and cawing. It was startling, but we knew they were saying good-bye and mourning the passing of their friend.

Remembering this, I realized why I had been drawn to the black feather.

Namaste,

Leslie
